The advantages and disadvantages of dental implants overseas

With the high cost of dental implants these days, it’s no wonder that people look at getting them overseas. But are dental implants better overseas? Let’s look at the advantages and disadvantages of dental implants overseas to help you make an informed decision.

Advantages of dental implants overseas

Cost – It can be less expensive, and you get what you pay for.

Vacation – You get a vacation in a nice destination.

Disadvantages of dental implants overseas

No regulations – Not all counties have health guidelines. Make sure you check the regulations in the country you’re considering. Quite often you’ll find regulations are nonexistent or inferior.

Infection – With little to no health regulations, there is no way for you to know the standards adhered to in another country. Therefore, you run the risk of getting an infection.

Follow up care – After care is not nearly as important to an overseas provider because you visit, you pay, you go. Your local dentist is much more concerned with follow up because you’re a life long patient.

Cost – What if the Implant fails after you return home? Are you going to fly overseas to have it fixed? Are you going to take more vacation time, take time off work, and pay for an additional flight and hotel stay? Thinking about these factors, the cost of dental implants isn’t cheap anymore.

You can’t enjoy your vacation – There may be some downtime after surgery. You will be taking antibiotics and pain killers. The foods you can eat will be limited the first few days after surgery. All these things make it hard to enjoy your vacation.

Reputation – Do you know the reputation of a dentist in another country? It’s hard to decide when you don’t have any recommendations from family and friends.

We’re not saying dental implants overseas are a bad idea, but there is no doubt some considerations that you might not have thought of that makes dental tourism a little more expensive.
