What exactly are dental implants?

Dental implants are prosthetics made of titanium alloy that replace the root of the tooth and support a prosthesis. Implants are suitable for patients who have lost one, several, or all of their teeth. These prosthetics, once anchored to a healthy bone, provide reliable stability for the patient’s new teeth. Dental implants contribute towards improving your physical appearance and ability to chew.

What are they made of?

Dental implants are made up of three pieces. They include:

• Titanium Fixture: This first piece serves as the anchor for the entire implant, as it imitates the root of the tooth. It’s typically shaped like a screw and eases into the bone for maximum support.

• Abutment: An abutment is a topping piece that fills in the hollow space of the dental implant and will secure the porcelain crown in place as well.

• Porcelain Crown: This last piece is custom-designed so that it fits comfortably and looks just as natural as your real teeth and the tooth that was lost.

The benefits of implants

Osseointegration: This trait is truly what sets dental implants apart. Only dental implants, which are placed directly into the jawbone, can undergo this fusion transformation.

Longevity: Since dental implants are permanently placed, they’re made of quality, long-lasting material. As a result, patients have found that their dental implants can last anywhere from a decade to a lifetime, depending on care and maintenance.

Natural Appearance: We work hard to make sure that your dental implant looks and feels as real as your natural teeth. This includes ensuring that the crown is shaped and shaded as realistic as possible.

Resilience: While other tooth restoration treatments can offer some bite pressure for easy food consumption, dental implants are the only ones that are embedded directly into the jawbone. This offers a level of durability that is not often found with other restoration treatments.

Easy to maintenance: Dental implants can be maintained like natural teeth, with regular brushing, flossing, and visits to the dentist.

High success rate: Well planned and maintained dental implants have a high survival rate compared to other teeth replacement options. The success rate for properly maintained dental implants is 95%. And, as implant technology and techniques improve, so should their success rate.

Improved ability to eat and chew: You no longer have to worry about dentures slipping or falling out.

How Do They Work So Well?

Dental implants have the unique ability to fuse with the jawbone in a biological process known as osseointegration. This does not mean that the implant diffuses into the bone, but rather the jawbone grows around the implant to secure it in place. Only dental devices that utilize implants have access to this. The permanence of osseointegration allows for more durability and stability when eating or speaking. Other devices may have to rely on adhesives or a bridge to remain in place, but not dental implants. Osseointegration makes all the difference.
